Hormuz Oil Exits Halve to 7.5 MMbpd as Shippers Avoid Southern Route
The 10-day average of oil flows exiting the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to about 7.5 MMbpd, roughly half the late-June peak, according to Kpler data. Saudi Red Sea and UAE Fujairah routes add only about 4 MMbpd of incremental flow because they were already carrying about 3.5 MMbpd before the war, meaning they do not restore the roughly 20 MMbpd that moved through Hormuz before the conflict.
The slowdown comes as security risks deepen. Kpler said shippers were showing a growing loss of confidence in the southern lane near Oman's coast, and all 21 monitored transits on Tuesday used northern shipping lanes close to Iran. Some ships are refusing Hormuz passages guided by the US military after attacks, and shipping data shows five ships have been attacked in Omani waters since July 7. Recent attacks have also increasingly hit larger tankers and jeopardized shuttle runs, a trade that has become a major lifeline for the UAE; five of nine attacks on commercial ships since a shelved June peace pact involved very large crude carriers, according to Bloomberg data compiled from the International Maritime Organization.
