Iran Blocks Strait of Hormuz Shipping After 4 Ships Supported by US Probe Route, Warns No Energy Cargo Will Pass Without Permission
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping and intercepted four vessels allegedly supported by the United States. Two ships stopped following an incident on a self described unsafe route, while a second pair turned back after switching off navigation systems and ignoring warnings. The navy stated that zero oil, gas, or chemical fertilizer shipments will pass through the chokepoint without Iranian authorization.
The blockade claim follows expanded U.S. strikes targeting Iranian coastal infrastructure aimed at securing commercial shipping lanes. The U.S. Energy Secretary responded by affirming Washington will work to guarantee energy flows through the waterway with Iranian cooperation or otherwise. The official added that while a diplomatic resolution remains an option, the United States will maintain freedom of navigation if Tehran refuses to reopen the passage.
