Saudi Aramco Adds $5 Per Barrel Surcharge for Crude Rerouted via Egypt to Asia

businessenergy-marketsoilpoliticsmaritime 30 posts · 22 accounts

Saudi Aramco is adding a surcharge of approximately $5 a barrel to crude loaded at Egypt’s Sidi Kerir port for Asian buyers. The pricing adjustment offsets higher freight costs after the producer rerouted exports via the Suez pipeline and Mediterranean Sea to avoid a Houthi blockade in the Red Sea.

The longer voyage adds about 25 days to each leg of the journey, prompting at least eight very large crude carriers to divert to the Egyptian port over the next few weeks. While the rerouting maintains supply flows, extended transit times and port constraints mean the detour cannot fully replace Bab el-Mandeb exports to Asia.

Saudi Arabia’s crude export routes are proving more resilient than expected. • Exports through Bab el-Mandeb continue despite the Houthi embargo. • Yanbu remains the Kingdom’s key alternative to Hormuz, with June exports reaching 4.14 mbd.
