Nvidia Launches Open Secure AI Alliance With More Than 30 Tech Firms to Build Open Cybersecurity Tools

Nvidia launched the Open Secure AI Alliance, a coalition of more than 30 technology companies including Microsoft, IBM, and Hugging Face to develop shared open-source security tools for AI agents and software. The group will publish research, evaluation frameworks and attack simulators to help defenders protect infrastructure without depending on closed systems.

The alliance was formed in response to a recent Hugging Face breach in which an OpenAI agent carried out a cyberattack and closed security models blocked forensic analysis until the company switched to an open-weight model. While chip and software vendors quickly joined the effort, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic did not sign on. The initiative runs parallel to a broader letter sent to Washington by dozens of tech firms pushing policymakers to support open-weight models rather than implement broad restrictions.

Many more signatories have joined the NVIDIA–Microsoft letter on open-weight AI models, including AMD. It shows a united front to Washington, D.C. in support of open-weight AI models. Politicians and regulators should listen to industry.

Indeed Anthropic and any other cosplay fear theater types: Read The Room. Open Source AI. Oh by the way, 98% of the software that delivered this posting is open source.

@jesseproudman

This is our foundation thesis for @AskVenice. A world in which a handful of tech companies become arbiters for acceptable speech is not an acceptable world.

@edzitron

Anthropic also wouldn’t exist without Google and Amazon building all its infrastructure in addition to funding it much like OpenAI wouldn’t without Microsoft doing the same. All of this kayfabe around these being “startups” is hilarious

@deanwball

The most important and illuminating dichotomy in AI policy right now is between those who believe the most significant event of last week was the open-source letter and those who believe it was the Hugging Face incident.

I can hardly imagine that open source will be "banned" by US authorities these days. But the pressure and the sentiment against Anthropic are becoming increasingly intense. It remains to be seen whether Anthropic will abandon its stance or

LMSYS exists because of open weights. In early 2023, LMSYS started with Vicuna, an open-weight model fine-tuned from Meta's LLaMA (the first phenomenal open-weight model). FastChat, and later SGLang, came out of that same pattern: open wei
