Chipotle Beats Earnings and Raises Fiscal Year Guidance on 9.3% Revenue Growth
Chipotle posted $3.35 billion in second-quarter revenue, beating analyst estimates as comparable restaurant sales grew 2.2% and adjusted earnings per share reached $0.33. The chain also raised its full-year outlook for new restaurant openings to a range of 350 to 370.
Restaurant-level operating margin contracted to 25.2% from 27.4% a year earlier, prompting the company to announce the return of mystery shoppers to monitor service and quality. Shares rose more than 6% in after-hours trading as traders reacted to the earnings beat and refreshed guidance.
