Panama Canal Halts Panamax Vessel Bookings From July 25 on Water Shortages
The Panama Canal Authority will halt daily booking auctions for the canal’s Panamax-class locks starting July 25, suspending part of the vessel reservation system due to water constraints at Gatun Lake.
The suspension is effective until further notice, according to shipping agent Norton Lilly. The decision also cites projected water levels and anticipated constraints from El Niño conditions, adding a new disruption to global trade routes already strained by shipping snarls in the Middle East.
