Houthis Warn Shipping Companies to Avoid Saudi Ports as 2 Tankers Alter Course
Yemen's Houthis warned shipping companies not to load or discharge cargo at Saudi ports, saying in an email that their maritime embargo applies to any ship calling there and that violators could face sanctions and targeting. The group earlier announced a blockade of Saudi shipping through the Red Sea, which Kpler analyst Muyu Xu said carries 90% of Saudi Arabia's oil output.
MarineTraffic data later showed two laden crude tankers altered course after departing Saudi Arabia. Some oil tankers were turning back or slowing near Bab el-Mandeb, but many other vessels were still heading from the Gulf of Aden into the Red Sea, and six refiners across Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan said Saudi crude loadings from the Red Sea were still set to proceed as planned for now. Trump said the US would "take care of" the Houthis if they followed through on blockading Saudi ports.
