DeepSeek CEO Claims Huawei AI Chip Substitutes Nvidia GB300 System in China With 4-To-1 Processor Ratio
DeepSeek CEO Liang Wenfeng said Huawei’s Ascend 950 chips can fully substitute for Nvidia’s GB200 and GB300 systems in China, establishing a two-year performance gap that requires four domestic processors to match a single Nvidia accelerator.
The company currently has access to 16,000 Huawei cards, but Wenfeng noted that training a model at today’s largest scale would require roughly 200,000. He stated that Chinese AI labs are prioritizing hardware availability over price or efficiency, accepting cost premiums of up to 200% and shorter three-year economic lifespans to bypass U.S. export controls on Nvidia hardware.
