Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles at Jordan, Prompting U.S. and Israeli Interceptions Near Aqaba
Iran fired ballistic missiles at the Jordanian Red Sea port of Aqaba, triggering U.S. and Jordanian air defense systems to intercept the projectiles. Jordan’s armed forces reported that three of the four missiles were shot down while a fourth landed in a remote area, with no casualties or material damage reported.
Interceptor debris fell in an open area near the Israeli border city of Eilat, prompting the Israel Defense Force to fire Iron Dome interceptors to eliminate the remaining fragments. In response to the strikes, Jordan summoned Iran’s envoy to Amman for a formal protest, warning that attacks on the kingdom violate its sovereignty, while the IDF chief of staff declared the military is maintaining a high state of readiness.
