Bolivia is technically evaluating whether to formally incorporate Tether’s USDT into its national payment system, a mechanism designed to allow the stablecoin to circulate alongside the U.S. dollar and the boliviano, according to economy minister José Gabriel Espinoza.

The proposal follows increased stablecoin adoption driven by a prolonged foreign currency shortage, with local lenders Banco Unión and Banco FIE already offering related services. Espinoza indicated the government is currently assessing the technical feasibility of the integration, leaving the regulatory framework and timeline for a formal rollout undetermined.
