12 States Sue to Block Paramount’s $110 Billion Warner Bros. Discovery Takeover
California and 11 other states filed a lawsuit Monday to block Paramount Skydance’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The filing alleges the merger would eliminate competition in film distribution and basic cable licensing, giving the combined company roughly a 27% share of wide-release theatrical distribution and bringing the total studio market concentration to 86%.
The suit, led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, warns the takeover would raise prices and reduce content for audiences and distributors. State attorneys general have formally asked Paramount to halt closing the transaction until the litigation concludes, even as FCC Chairman Brendan Carr questioned the strength of the antitrust challenge.
