Netflix Shares Fall 9% on Weaker Third-Quarter Guidance That Narrows Revenue Outlook

businesscompany-earningsstocks 23 posts · 16 accounts

Netflix reported second-quarter results that matched revenue expectations and beat earnings-per-share estimates, but free cash flow fell to $1.53 billion, missing forecasts of $2.72 billion as higher cash tax payments weighed on results. The streaming service also issued third-quarter guidance projecting revenue of $12.86 billion and earnings of 82 cents per share, both trailing street estimates, while narrowing its full-year revenue outlook to $51.0 billion to $51.4 billion.

The downward-sloping growth trajectory triggered a nearly 9% decline in extended trading and underscored ongoing concerns about the company's expansion pace. Management noted that advertising revenue is on track to reach approximately $3 billion and artificial intelligence workflows will be deployed in roughly 300 titles this year. Netflix also announced it will shift its viewership report to an annual publication beginning in the first quarter of 2027 to refocus investor attention on financial metrics.

Netflix is going to stop reporting all its viewership figures twice a year. It will now do it once a year. It wants investors to focus on sales and profit instead of engagement.
