Taiwan Raids Super Micro Computer Office in Chip Smuggling Probe
Authorities in Taiwan raided an office belonging to Super Micro Computer Inc. on Monday, according to a person familiar with the matter. The action widens an investigation into whether the server maker facilitated the smuggling of Nvidia Corp. chips to China by using its infrastructure to bypass U.S. export restrictions.
The raid introduces additional legal and supply-chain scrutiny for the company, which has faced examination over its ties to Nvidia’s advanced graphics processors and their potential flow to restricted Chinese buyers. Taiwanese officials are currently assessing whether the chips were improperly shipped via Super Micro’s servers. Super Micro has not yet publicly commented on the raid.
