Citigroup Cuts Bitcoin Price Target to $82,000 and Ether to $2,240
Citigroup slashed its 12-month price forecast for Bitcoin to $82,000 from $112,000 and lowered its Ether target to $2,240 from $3,175, citing weakening inflows into exchange-traded funds and broader market pressure. The bank also wiped $10 billion off its 12-month projected net inflows into spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, bringing the combined forecast to zero.
The revision follows a record outflow month for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, which logged $4.5 billion in redemptions during June, marking the worst monthly performance since the funds launched in January 2024. Spot Ethereum ETFs mirrored the trend, recording $27.6 million in outflows on June 30 to extend a ninth consecutive day of withdrawals. Citigroup attributed the downgrade to roughly $3.3 billion in Bitcoin ETF outflows so far this year, stalled progress on U.S. crypto legislation, and concerns that corporate digital asset treasuries may sell their Bitcoin holdings as the cryptocurrency trades below $60,000.
