Brent Crude Falls Below $71 for First Time Since War on Iran Began After Qatar Reports Progress in U.S.-Iran Talks

businessenergy-marketsoilpoliticsus-foreign-policyworldiran 234 posts · 52 accounts

Signs of movement in U.S.-Iran diplomacy pushed Brent crude below $71 a barrel, the first time it has traded under that level since the U.S.-Israel war on Iran began. Qatar reported "positive progress" in separate mediator-led talks with Washington and Tehran, and President Donald Trump later said Iran had agreed to nearly all U.S. conditions, without providing details.

Qatar and Pakistan have been shuttling between the two sides in Doha, and Qatar said the parties agreed to continue discussions. Reuters reported the agenda centered on Tehran's frozen funds and the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has been pressing for control over vessel traffic and the right to charge ships. Iran's military warned on Thursday that vessels must use routes designated by Tehran and that any U.S. intervention would draw a swift response.
