U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETFs Post $5.4 Billion in Net Outflows for First Half of 2026
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs posted $5.4 billion in net outflows for the first six months of 2026, marking the first half-year with redemptions since the products launched in January 2024. The outflows extended into July, with $379.59 million leaving the funds on Monday, following a period of sustained withdrawals where $4.5 billion drained from the ETFs in June alone. BlackRock’s IBIT, the category’s largest fund, accounted for approximately $5 billion of those redemptions between May and June, reversing its historical position as the primary source of inflows.
The consecutive sell-offs reflect a broader retreat in institutional demand for cryptocurrency exposure as higher U.S. interest rates and a stronger dollar pressure risk assets. U.S. spot ether ETFs experienced a similar shift, recording $1.47 billion in net outflows for the half-year. According to DWF Labs, while some capital rotated into ether products that offer staking yields, overall investor positioning has pivoted away from direct crypto exposure, with net outflows now tracking for both major asset classes.
