Apple Raises Mac and iPad Prices as Memory Chip Costs Surge
Apple raised prices on its Mac and iPad lineup, with increases reaching up to $300 on entry-level models, citing a sharp rise in memory and storage component costs. The Cupertino company announced the adjustments across the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Pro starting Wednesday. CEO Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal that soaring chip prices made the price hikes unavoidable.
Apple stated that the adjustments are a direct consequence of the AI industry's infrastructure buildout. "The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage," the company said in a statement, noting it had shielded customers from component cost increases previously. Beyond computing devices, Apple also raised the price of its Vision Pro headset to $3,699 from $3,499. Following the announcement, Apple shares fell more than 5% in trading.
