Russia Suspends Gasoline and Kerosene Exports, Weighs Diesel Ban Amid Fuel Shortages
Russia has suspended exports of gasoline and aviation kerosene to address domestic supply shortages, with President Vladimir Putin confirming that officials are considering a complete ban on diesel fuel exports. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak indicated that Moscow may also import gasoline to stabilize the domestic market and reduce the minimum required volume for sales on the SPIMEX wholesale exchange from 15% to 10% of refinery output.
The export restrictions follow escalating rationing and panic buying across Russian regions. During an emergency government meeting on Sunday, Putin publicly acknowledged the crisis, stating that Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure are disrupting domestic supplies. While the Kremlin maintains that strategic fuel reserves stand at 1.7 million metric tons and refineries are operating at full capacity, the shortages have accelerated inflationary pressures and prompted officials to direct additional shipments to stressed territories like Crimea and accelerate emergency maintenance on damaged facilities.
