Micron Falls Nearly 10% After Reported Nvidia Rubin LPDDR5X Cut Spurs AI Memory Demand Fears
Micron shares fell close to 10% in one session after the market interpreted a reported halving of Nvidia Rubin SOCAMM memory as a sign AI memory demand was weakening. The reported reduction was described as affecting the CPU-side LPDDR5X capacity tier rather than the HBM4 memory next to the GPU.
If public reporting and supply-chain estimates hold, the change reflects constraints in high-capacity LPDDR5X supply, power and heat rather than weaker demand. On that view, the selloff hits memory makers including Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix in the near term while keeping intact a longer-term case for pooled memory accessed through optical fabric, a shift framed as a 2027-to-2029 architecture migration rather than a 2026 product swap.
