Apple Plans Price Increases as AI Boom Drives Up Memory, Storage Chip Costs
Apple plans to raise prices on its products as the AI boom drives up the cost of memory and storage chips, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Cook called the increases unavoidable, saying Apple had tried to absorb the higher component costs and shield customers, but that the situation had become unsustainable.
The remarks underscore how demand tied to AI infrastructure is spilling into consumer electronics, with DRAM and NAND prices rising as AI servers absorb more supply. Cook also said he had never seen a commodity price swing like the one over the past six months.
