Ukraine Hits Moscow Oil Refinery for Second Time in Week as Record Drone Attack Disrupts Airports
Moscow came under a record overnight drone attack in which Ukrainian drones struck the Moscow Oil Refinery for the second time in a week, sending flames and thick smoke over the Russian capital. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the city was fending off a "large-scale" assault, with several drones reaching the refinery.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the strike a "fair" response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. The refinery, about 14 kilometers from the Kremlin, supplies around 40% of the Moscow region’s petrol and 50% of its diesel fuel. The broader attack also disrupted airport operations and forced the closure of several major roads in and around the city.
