UK Denies Starmer Sought Carve-Out From US Curbs on Anthropic AI Models
The UK government said reports that Prime Minister Keir Starmer sought a carve-out from US export controls on Anthropic’s most advanced AI models were “categorically untrue,” rebutting earlier accounts that Washington had rejected a British request. The statement came ahead of a lunch between Group of Seven leaders and technology chief executives.
The dispute centers on US restrictions on Anthropic’s Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models that bar access by foreign nationals and prompted the company to disable the systems for all customers to comply. Talks between Anthropic and Trump administration officials on Monday ended without a resolution, leaving the curbs in place as both sides remain divided over the models’ security safeguards.
