SEC Chair Atkins Seeks Comprehensive Overhaul of Public-Company Rules to Revive IPO Market
The SEC is working on a comprehensive overhaul of the regulatory framework for public companies to help revive the market for initial public offerings, Chair Paul Atkins said. He described IPOs as an avenue for millions of investors to share in the growth of the next generation of American companies.
Atkins also said the SEC is not a “merit regulator” that “pick[s] winners or losers,” but one that “call[s] balls and strikes,” underscoring his view that the agency’s job is to apply the rules around public offerings rather than judge their merits.
