Iran Restarts Crude Shipments After 2 Months as 3.8 Million Barrels Cross US Blockade Line
Ship-tracking data showed at least two National Iranian Tanker Company VLCCs, DIONA and HERO2, had exited the US Navy blockade perimeter carrying a combined 3.8 million barrels of crude with their AIS transponders broadcasting, marking Iran’s first crude exports in two months. Kpler data later indicated four laden Iranian tankers were leaving the Sea of Oman, with three already across the blockade line, suggesting oil movements are restarting before the planned Friday signing of the US-Iran memorandum aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The restart does not mean normal traffic has returned. A US military document circulated to the shipping industry said Washington has been defending commercial ships against regular threats and guiding some transits along the Omani coast with their signals off. Separate ship-tracking data showed owners beginning to position tankers for re-entry, with at least 23 VLCCs signaling UAE ports and more than 30 already at anchorage, but more than 550 ships remained west of Hormuz.
