Southern Iraq Oil Output Jumps 500,000 BPD to 1.5 Million as Tankers Reach Export Terminals

businessenergy-marketsoil 317 posts · 74 accounts

Southern Iraq's crude output has risen by about 500,000 barrels a day to 1.5 million bpd as more tankers reach export terminals, freeing storage space and allowing more barrels to be exported, according to Basra Oil and oil officials. Iraq increased output at the Rumaila field by 300,000 bpd to 650,000 bpd and restarted West Qurna 2 at about 150,000 bpd to lift southern production further.

The jump marks a broader recovery than earlier partial gains as tanker movements begin easing export bottlenecks tied to the Strait of Hormuz disruption. It comes ahead of Friday's planned signing of the US-Iran agreement to reopen the waterway; although several Iranian tankers have already crossed the US blockade line, oil and shipping firms have said wider traffic through Hormuz remains below normal.
