US Proposes at Least 10% Tariffs on Imports From 60 Economies After Forced-Labor Probe
The US is proposing tariffs of at least 10% on imports from most major trading partners after an investigation into goods allegedly produced by forced labor, in a move described as covering 60 economies. The Office of the US Trade Representative is seeking additional duties following investigations into forced-labor goods.
The proposal would affect economies including China, the European Union and Japan, and is part of President Donald Trump’s effort to rebuild the sweeping tariff wall struck down by the US Supreme Court. If adopted, the duties would broaden US trade barriers across a wide range of major partners.
