Banco BPM Invites Monte dei Paschi to $58 Billion Merger Talks as Intesa, BPER Weigh Moves
Banco BPM invited Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena to merger talks on a proposed combination valued at about $58 billion, or €50 billion. A deal would create Italy's second-biggest bank.
The approach comes as Intesa Sanpaolo and BPER are also reported to be weighing moves involving Monte dei Paschi. Banco BPM's proposal remains at the discussion stage rather than a finalized transaction.
