Oil Tanker Olympic Life Reports External Explosion 60 Nautical Miles Off Muscat
The oil tanker Olympic Life reported an external explosion on its port side aft, close to the waterline, while 60 nautical miles east of Muscat, Oman, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations and the Joint Maritime Information Center. The crew and vessel were safe, and the ship was continuing to its next scheduled destination, the maritime center said.
UKMTO said some bunker fuel was discharged into the sea, while the Joint Maritime Information Center said any environmental impact was unclear. Authorities were investigating, and the center gave no details on the cause of the incident.
