Federal Judge Orders Kennedy Center to Remove Trump's Name, Blocks Closure
A Washington federal judge ordered the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to remove President Donald Trump's name from its facade, website, letterhead and other official materials, ruling that renaming the institution for Trump was illegal. The order also bars the center from closing the venue while it undergoes renovations.
The judge said Congress named the center by statute in 1964 and that only Congress can change that name. The decision halts an effort to rebrand the decades-old national cultural institution in Trump's name and to temporarily close it during remodeling.
