FBI Seizes 127,000 Bitcoin Worth $8 Billion in Largest US Crypto Forfeiture
The FBI seized 127,000 Bitcoin worth about $8 billion in Operation Blackout, a crackdown on scam compounds and organized crime that the bureau said marked the largest cryptocurrency forfeiture in U.S. history. The sweep also resulted in nearly 300 arrests.
The operation targeted scam centers spanning Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, as well as broader networks across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It helped free nearly 2,000 people who had allegedly been forced to work in the compounds, and more than 7,000 Starlink terminals in Myanmar linked to suspected fraud activity were disabled.
