Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 4.8 With Fast Mode 2.5x Faster and 3x Cheaper Than Before

Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4.8 on Thursday, formally releasing the model after it earlier appeared in Claude Code desktop assets and the app’s model selector. The company said the update builds on Opus 4.7 with sharper judgment and longer independent work, keeps standard pricing unchanged at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, and offers a Fast Mode that runs roughly 2.5x faster and is three times cheaper than before.

Anthropic also started a research preview of dynamic workflows in Claude Code, which lets Claude plan work, run hundreds of parallel subagents and verify outputs before reporting back. The model defaults to a high-effort setting, with xhigh recommended for harder tasks; Anthropic said Opus 4.8 scored 69.2% on SWE-bench Pro versus 64.3% for Opus 4.7, while Artificial Analysis said it scored 1890 on GDPval-AA, 121 points ahead of GPT-5.5 xhigh.
