Iran Says Forces Launch Missiles Toward Unspecified Targets, Navy Fires Warning Shots at 4 Vessels in Strait of Hormuz
Iranian state media said the armed forces launched missiles from southern Iran toward unspecified targets late Wednesday and that the navy had earlier fired warning shots at four vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. IRGC-affiliated Tasnim described the launches as warning shots toward enemy military vessels, while some Iran-linked channels said the vessels included US-linked commercial ships. Those claims could not be independently verified, and there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The reports follow a fast-moving confrontation around the waterway after U.S. Central Command said earlier that Iran fired a ballistic missile toward Kuwait, which Kuwaiti forces intercepted, and launched five one-way attack drones that posed a threat in and near the strait, all of which were intercepted by U.S. forces. CENTCOM called the missile launch an egregious ceasefire violation and said it also prevented a sixth drone launch from a ground control site in Bandar Abbas, while Iran said its subsequent strike on a U.S. air base in Kuwait was retaliation for earlier American action near Bandar Abbas.
