Four Iranian Crude Tankers Carrying 7 Million Barrels Appear Redirected Back
Four tankers operated by National Iranian Tanker Co., carrying a combined 7 million barrels of crude, appear to have attempted to leave Iran over the past two to three days but were likely redirected back, according to tanker-tracking analysis. The apparent reversals would point to a more direct disruption of Iranian crude exports, rather than only wider shipping delays around the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes after US Central Command said it had disabled five commercial vessels and redirected 116 others under its blockade, including the Gambia-flagged M/V Lian Star, which it said was stopped after more than 20 warnings while heading toward an Iranian port. The earlier action showed Washington tightening maritime enforcement near Iran even as a ceasefire remained in effect.
