TSMC CEO Rejects 10% Profit-Sharing Guarantee, Discourages Unionization
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Chief Executive Officer C.C. Wei told employees he would not guarantee a profit-sharing ratio of at least 10%, while saying future pay increases would be larger for lower job grades and smaller for higher ones. In a company Q&A on bonuses and pay, Wei said he did not encourage unionization and that there was no ceiling on compensation.
The remarks build on Wei’s effort to calm unease over incentives after he earlier told Taiwan-based staff their average profit-sharing payouts should rise more than 30% this year and that first-quarter bonuses would be paid on May 29. He also said there were "no red flags" in the business outlook, that equipment-related roles should see pay increases, and that he was not worried about claims Elon Musk was offering double salaries to recruit TSMC staff.
