US Widens Iran Sanctions Beyond Oil, Targets 8 Individuals and 5 Entities in Procurement Network
The US announced another round of Iran-related sanctions, including counter-terrorism measures and penalties on an Iranian procurement network that Washington said impersonated small US businesses to obtain restricted technology and supply sanctioned entities. Treasury targeted eight individuals and five entities, including Ali Majd Sepehr and his company Sorena Hushmand Samaneh Company, which was accused of defrauding dozens of US information-technology companies, resellers and vendors out of millions of dollars.
The move extends Washington’s pressure campaign after earlier sanctions focused on Iran’s oil revenue, companies and vessels. By adding procurement and counter-terrorism designations, the US is widening its economic squeeze even as negotiations with Tehran remain unresolved.
