Anthropic Sees First Operating Profit as Q2 Revenue More Than Doubles to $10.9 Billion
Anthropic expects second-quarter revenue to more than double to $10.9 billion from $4.8 billion in the first quarter and to post its first operating profit, according to disclosures to investors reported by the Wall Street Journal. The AI startup is projecting about $559 million of operating profit for the quarter, a sharp change from prior investor materials that had not projected full-year profitability until at least 2028.
The updated outlook adds a major financial milestone to Anthropic's previously reported fundraising talks. The Financial Times earlier reported that the company had agreed terms for a $30 billion funding round valuing it at about $900 billion, with Dragoneer Investment Group, Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia Capital and Altimeter Capital each committing $2 billion or more. The Journal said Anthropic may not remain profitable for the full year as compute spending ramps up, and that the operating-profit figure excludes stock-based compensation.
