Anthropic Weighs Microsoft Maia Chips as Azure Adds Nvidia Capacity
Anthropic is considering Microsoft’s Maia AI chips as part of a multichip strategy aimed at reducing its reliance on Nvidia, while Microsoft has allocated more Nvidia servers and new Azure clusters to the AI company as its demand for computing power increases, according to The Information.
The move would broaden a compute mix that already includes Nvidia GPUs, Amazon’s Trainium chips, Google TPUs and Colossus capacity. SpaceX disclosed this week that Anthropic agreed to pay $1.25 billion a month through May 2029 for capacity across Colossus and Colossus II, after Anthropic said it would scale up GB200 capacity in Colossus 2 throughout June.

@nottombrownWe’re expanding our partnership with @SpaceX, and will be scaling up on GB200 capacity in Colossus 2 throughout June. Appreciate @elonmusk and the team helping us find good homes for the Claudes.
@deredleritt3rAnthropic is now also obtaining compute from Colossus 2

@mtsliveSITUATION UPDATE: Anthropic is expanding its partnership with SpaceX, scaling up GB200 capacity on Colossus 2 throughout June to run Claude inference.
@kimmonismusHoly: After Anthropic secured compute capacity from Colossus 1, it is now also getting access to compute from Colossus 2. But to be honest: I somehow expected to his. Grok certainly doesn’t need all that compute.
@sawyermerrittWow, Anthropic has agreed to pay @SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for AI compute capacity, with capacity ramping in May and June 2026 at a reduced fee. Huge deal
@stockmktnewzAnthropic has agreed to pay Elon Musk owned SpaceX $1.25 Billion per month through May 2029 for AI compute capacity per @SawyerMerritt
@zerohedgeANTHROPIC TO PAY SPACEX $1.25B PER MONTH THROUGH MAY 2029 Is Claude scraping X?
@zerohedgeMost likely for subletting Colossus
@wallstengineAnthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25B per month through May 2029 for compute capacity across COLOSSUS and COLOSSUS II.
@gurgavinANTHROPIC IS GONNA START PAYING SPACEX $1.25 BILLION A MONTH TO USE ITS DATA CENTRES THROUGH 2029 THAT’S $15 BILLION A YEAR JUST FROM ANTHROPIC FOR CONTEXT SPACEX’S REVENUE FOR ALL OF 2025 WAS $18.7 BILLION 🤯
@tanayjAnthropic is paying SpaceX $1.25B per month for compute through May 2029. It includes capacity across Colossus and Colossus 2 once it ramps fully and either side can terminate the contract with a 90 day notice.
@thetranscript_SpaceX: "...we entered into Cloud Services Agreements with Anthropic ...with respect to access to compute capacity across COLOSSUS & COLOSSUS II...[Anthropic] has agreed to pay us $1.25B per month through May 2029, with capacity ramping
@zeffmaxWell, the SpaceX S-1 is out... Anthropic's previously announced deal to rent compute from SpaceX is worth $1.25B a month, per disclosures. That means Anthropic will pay SpaceX $15B a year until 2029. SpaceX says it has plans to strike sim
@bearlyaiThe Anthropic deal with SpaceX is massive. It is $1.25B per month until May 2029. That’s $15B a year to get compute from Colossus I and Colossus II. Deal alone basically doubled SpaceX sales, which was $18.7B in 2025 and $14B in 2024. ht
@stocksavvyshayAnthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.3B per month through May 2029 for compute capacity across Colossus & Colossus II. The compute constraint is severe enough that frontier AI companies are locking in multi-year capacity instead of fighti
@scaling01From the SpaceX IPO filing: Anthropic is paying SpaceX $1.25B a month untill May 2029 for the COLOSSUS 1/2 compute
@polymarketmoneyAnthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.3B per month through May 2029 for compute across Colossus and Colossus II.
@semianalysis_SpaceX just filed their S1. SemiAnalysis research is cited! (1/5) 🧵
@semianalysis_Specifically, in a section called: Our AI Compute Infrastructure Advantage and Growth Strategy SpaceX states that they "... believe AI leadership will be defined by the ability to rapidly scale compute capacity to support exponential usage
@semianalysis_They support this claim by commenting that: "According to SemiAnalysis, for most AI companies without a build cost advantage, their total capital cost of building compute infrastructure derives approximately 30% from data center constructi
@semianalysis_they also include some nice pictures of some GB200 NVL72 racks in COLOSSUS II (4/5)
@semianalysis_SpaceX also disclosed exactly how much their deal with Anthropic is worth. They state that they have "entered Cloud Services Agreements with Anthropic in May 2026 for capacity on COLOSSUS and COLOSSUS II at $1.25B/month through May 2029" t
@businessAnthropic has agreed to pay Elon Musk’s SpaceX nearly $45 billion over the next three years for computing resources as part of an expanded deal to support its Claude AI software, according to a securities filing
