Trump Says China Wants US Oil Shipments From Texas Louisiana and Alaska
President Donald Trump said China wants to buy US oil from Texas, Louisiana and Alaska, adding specific sourcing detail to an energy trade proposal that emerged from his summit with Xi Jinping in Beijing. Trump said he thought the sides were likely to make a deal and that Beijing had agreed it wanted to buy oil from the US.
The comments build on earlier signals from the summit that energy was one of the clearest commercial areas under discussion. A White House official said Xi had expressed interest in purchasing more American oil and that the two leaders discussed increasing agricultural trade and improving oil flows, while China also renewed import licenses for hundreds of US beef plants. Trump also appeared to blur the timing of any oil purchases, at one point suggesting Chinese ships were already buying US oil before adding, "I don't know," leaving unclear whether shipments have begun or remain part of a prospective agreement.
