Brent Nears $105 and Asian Currencies Slide as Iran Ceasefire Falters
Oil rose and Asian currencies weakened on Tuesday as doubts deepened that the US-Iran ceasefire tied to reopening the Strait of Hormuz could hold. Brent crude climbed to around $105 a barrel and the dollar strengthened after Donald Trump said the ceasefire was on life support, extending market concern after his earlier rejection of Tehran’s response to a US peace proposal.
Indonesia’s rupiah fell below 17,500 to the dollar for the first time, leading a broader retreat in Asian currencies amid a deadlock in US-Iran talks and high oil prices. The moves underscored the risk that negotiations aimed at ending the war and restoring shipping through Hormuz remain stalled.
