Oil Tops $100 as Trump Comments Dim US-Iran Peace Deal Hopes

businessenergy-marketsoilpoliticsus-foreign-policy 248 posts · 68 accounts

Oil extended gains, with U.S. crude futures rising more than 2% to $100.15 a barrel and Brent crude climbing more than 2% to $106.38, as fragile talks between Washington and Tehran and comments from President Donald Trump further reduced hopes for a peace deal.

Trump said on Sunday that Iran’s response to a U.S. proposal to end the conflict was “totally unacceptable,” prolonging a standoff that has kept markets focused on the risk of supply disruptions from the Middle East. Investors have been watching whether diplomacy could eventually ease pressure on regional oil flows, including through the Strait of Hormuz.
