UAE Accelerates Fujairah Pipeline to Double Oil Export Capacity Bypassing Hormuz by 2027
The United Arab Emirates is accelerating construction of a new west-east oil pipeline to Fujairah that will bypass the Strait of Hormuz and is due to begin operating in 2027. The project will double Abu Dhabi National Oil Co.’s export capacity through Fujairah, according to a statement from Abu Dhabi’s media office, on top of an existing 1.5 million-barrel-a-day line from the emirate’s oil fields to the Gulf of Oman.
The expansion would give the UAE a larger outlet around a shipping chokepoint that has become central to maritime and oil-market tensions. In recent days, Iranian officials have outlined plans for tighter control over the Strait of Hormuz, describing the waterway as a source of economic revenue and political leverage, while parliament finalized a proposal for what it called "smart management" of the strait.
