Cerebras Faces Valuation Scrutiny After Debut as WSJ Heard Flags 134x Revenue Multiple
A day after Cerebras’ volatile Nasdaq debut, attention shifted from its first-day surge to whether the AI chipmaker’s valuation is justified. A Wall Street Journal Heard column said Nvidia’s AI-chip business is more than 400 times larger than Cerebras and still growing nearly as fast, and argued that Cerebras’ Thursday closing price valued the company at about 134 times revenue for the past four quarters, more than five times Nvidia’s multiple on the same basis.
Cerebras raised $5.55 billion by selling 30 million shares at $185 in the year’s biggest IPO so far. The stock opened at $350, briefly topped a $100 billion market value and closed its first session at $311.07, up 68% from the offer price and valuing the company at about $67 billion.
