Trump-Lula White House Meeting Ends Without Press Appearance as Tariff Talks Continue
President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva finished a three-hour White House meeting on Thursday without the planned press appearance, after a scheduled briefing was postponed and then canceled. The talks covered trade and tariffs, and both sides described the meeting positively while agreeing to keep discussing the often-divisive issues.
Lula traveled to Washington seeking to avert new US trade tariffs. He later said he had personally requested no press access before the meeting because a pre-meeting availability made no sense, and Brazil said the discussions also included cooperation on crime fighting and strategic minerals.
