France Appoints Magistrate in X Probe, Expanding Inquiry Into Musk and Yaccarino
French judicial authorities have appointed an investigating magistrate to examine alleged abuses linked to X, moving the case into a new phase and broadening an inquiry launched in January 2025 over suspected interference in French politics. The investigation now covers allegations including Holocaust denial and the distribution of sexual deepfakes, and includes Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino over their roles operating the platform at the time of the alleged incidents.
The latest step follows earlier reports that Paris prosecutors had escalated their scrutiny of Musk and X over the functioning of the platform. Authorities are also examining allegations of unlawful collection of personal data, dissemination of non-consensual content and possible complicity in sharing child sexual abuse material, while Musk and Yaccarino failed to respond to a judicial summons for an informal interview.
