DeepSeek is seeking to raise up to 50 billion yuan ($7.35 billion) in its first funding round and plans to release an updated V4.1 model in June, according to The Information, as the Chinese artificial-intelligence startup accelerates commercialization of its technology. The report said the financing could value the company at more than $51.5 billion, and founder and Chief Executive Officer Liang Wenfeng may personally invest as much as $3 billion.

The new target is above earlier reports that DeepSeek’s maiden fundraising could raise as much as $4 billion at a valuation of up to $50 billion, with state-backed investors expected to participate. The Information said China’s National Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund is expected to be the second-largest investor, while V4.1 is being designed with more tools for enterprise users and better support for Model Context Protocol, a standard for connecting AI models with other software.
