Report Says TSMC Weighs $18.9 Billion Longtan Chip Fab
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is expected to invest as much as NT$600 billion ($18.9 billion) in a next-generation angstrom-class fab in Longtan in northern Taiwan, according to a media report. The project advanced after Hsinchu Science Park officials reopened talks over land for the site, which had been delayed by residents opposed to forced land seizure.
The planned development area would cover 104 hectares, down from 158.6 hectares originally, the report said. TSMC hasn’t confirmed the plans, and construction could begin in 2027 after government preparatory work, including an environmental assessment and urban planning, is completed.
