Tokyo Key Inflation Gauge Slows to 1.5%, Backs BOJ Caution
Tokyo’s key inflation gauge slowed to 1.5% in April, its weakest pace since 2022 and below the Bank of Japan’s target, supporting a cautious approach toward further interest-rate hikes. The measure excluding fresh food was below the 1.8% forecast and down from 1.7% previously.
Headline consumer prices in the capital rose 1.5% from a year earlier, versus a 1.7% estimate and 1.4% previously. A measure excluding fresh food and energy rose 1.9%, below the 2.2% forecast and down from 2.3% in the prior reading.
