UK Warns Iran War Inflation Could Linger 8 Months
UK officials warned that food, fuel and airfare inflation tied to the Iran war and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could persist for more than eight months after the conflict is resolved. The Food and Drink Federation sees food inflation at 9% to 10%, while Apollo said the UK is the world's largest net importer of jet fuel at 9.0 million tons in 2025, leaving it especially exposed to rising aviation fuel costs.
Jet fuel prices continued to climb, with Pacific Northwest barrels nearing $216 a barrel, or $5.14 a gallon, and California prices at $4.97 a gallon. Apollo also flagged Australia, Germany and France as among the countries most exposed to higher jet fuel costs, while Wizz Air's CEO said the airline does not expect to run out of jet fuel.
