GDP Core PCE Accelerates to 4.3% in First Quarter
First-quarter 2026 data pointed to firmer price and labor-cost readings. The GDP core PCE price index rose 4.3%, up from 2.7% previously, while the Employment Cost Index increased 0.9% in the quarter, largely due to a rise in benefits.
Real GDP rose 2.7% in year-over-year terms, up from 2.0% previously and the strongest reading since the third quarter of 2024. The personal saving rate fell to 3.6% in March, its lowest level since 2022.
