TSMC Accelerates 2nm Ramp to Meet AI Demand

A media report said TSMC is accelerating its 2nm capacity ramp to meet big artificial-intelligence demand. At Hsinchu Fab 20, phases 1 and 2 are already in mass production and equipment for phase 3 is due to move in during the third quarter. At Kaohsiung Fab 22, phase 1 is in mass production and phase 2 is slated to enter mass production in the fourth quarter.

In total, five phases are expected to reach 2nm mass production this year, which the report described as an unprecedented pace. First-year 2nm output is seen 45% higher than 3nm, while TSMC is planning nine new fab projects or plant conversions in each of 2025 and 2026. The A16 process, or N2 with Super Power Rail, is also due this year, and Senior Vice President Cliff Hou said at the Tech Symposium that TSMC is moving at twice the speed of previous generations.
